Free Short, Simple Restorative Yoga Home Practice for Calm

Join me for this short, free, two-pose restorative yoga home practice, which helps remind us that even amidst change and chaos, there's still some steadiness and calm in the world. Come soothe your nervous system and come back to yourself.

In this short, simple, at-home restorative yoga practice, we'll rest our bodies on the ground, consciously relax our muscles, and soften into the earth. As we do so, this sends signals to the brain and nervous system that it's OK to begin relaxing, too.


Grounding practices like this are helpful anytime, but especially amidst periods of intense change and stress. Reminding ourselves of the solid earth beneath our bodies (and releasing some of what we're carrying into that support!) helps us remember that even amidst chaos, there's still some steadiness and calm in our world and in ourselves.


All you'll need for this practice are:


  • A comfortable place to practice (rest your body on a soft layer like a yoga mat, blanket, or carpet)

  • A chair or couch to use as a prop

  • And an optional pillow for your head and/or blankets for grounding weight or warmth


Should you experience pain or discomfort at any point, follow suggestions provided for shifting the pose (e.g. extending the legs in the first pose) and see if this helps. If not, you might instead rest in savasana; lie down on your back with legs extended long, perhaps using a pillow under your head and another under your knees. If this bothers your lower back, bend the knees toward the ceiling and place the soles of your feet flat on the floor and rest there instead.
